Artist Statement

The “artist’s eye,” I believe, has been a talent that has been in my family’s genes.

My mother’s family consists of a long line of artisan craftsmen plasterers going back to Stow-on- the-Wold, England. Amongst my relatives, oil painting and photography have become avocations and one made a living as a painter.  As my career as a school psychologist has drawn to a close, it has opened the door to further pursuing my interests in photography and travel.  Photography draws upon the keen observation skills and patience that served me well as a school psychologist, as well as, the “artist’s eye” for composition, essence of a scene and the impact of light.  The family and our vacations served as my first venture into photography.  As is often the case, I became the phantom parent, never physically in any pictures but still there.
The mysteries and beauty of nature have always interested me. It was natural to capture our travels on film and now digitally.  I try to capture a moment in nature’s time that has universal appeal to the viewer. I am still the phantom you do not see, but who shares the experience with you.
